ProForm XP 542E Treadmill - A Sears Model, But You Won't See It On The Catwalk
The ProForm XP 542e treadmill is a value-priced treadmill produced by Proform exclusively for Sears.
Both the Proform XP 542e treadmills and the Proform XP 542s treadmill are part of Sears' XP series along with the 590s, a slightly larger model with SpaceSaver™ lift-assist.
Proform, like other Icon brands offered at Sears such as Nordic Track, Healthrider and Weslo, is a subsidiary of Icon Health and Fitness, the largest producer of exercise equipment in the world.
Pro Form treadmill models are known for good design and full-featured value, but are also considered to be a little skimpy on quality in favor of extras.
Still, they are often rated Best Buys in their price class, and since the XP series of ProForm treadmills is backed by Sears, they make for a pretty good deal for those who are into good health, keeping their weight down, and saving a good deal of money.
XPectations Without XPense
The XP 542e treadmill and the XP 542s treadmill are much the same, both are equipped with a 2.75HP motor for speeds up to 10MPH and controlled by Quickspeed™.
Both have 18x55 inch running surfaces, and that should be enough for a running stride to say nothing of a larger person in training, equipped with adjustable Pro Shox™ cushioning and power incline.
Both have readouts for speed, distance, calories burned, and time, and preset workouts are programmed, iFit™ interactive workouts optional.
The Proform XP 542e, however, adds a new twist, a CarbCounter™ for those adhering to low-carb lifestyles it also has a more sophisticated 5x7 matrix four-window Clearview™ Backlit console.
For both models, a cooling fan and bottle holder are standard, and since ProForm pioneered fold-away designs, both the 542e and the 542s can be folded up and stored between uses.
Sears backs its sports products whether sold online or at the store, and where the XP series is concerned, that's good.
